Whose Corner
This is HS 4b. - Richard.
Vulgarian
For historical interest, the vulgarians was the name adopted by a group of climbers based in the Shawanagunks in upstate New York in the 1960's. A favourite trick of theirs was to solo routes naked, notable Shockley's Celing. Any takers for similar antics in Ireland? --Ian Mulvany
Slave Labour
Is this really 5c? --James Cruickshank
- Close enough I'd say. Mind you not quite the same battle as e.g. Son of Sam. It looks bold but actually theres a pocket that you can get a good friend into to protect the section up to the crack.--Smcmullan 19:26, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
- I led this reasonably comfortably and really struggled to second Son of Sam. I would suggest that this is much closer to E1 5b's like Jet or Spitfire - one hardish move with reasonable gear followed by VS climing to the top. --James Cruickshank
Mannerless Monster
No protection... Best exposure you will get on a HS, fun to do --Malcolm O'Beirn
Hippy To Yuppy
Part of the handhold for the crux has broken off. I still don't think its 5b though. The crux move is commiting rather than difficult and there is only one hard move. I'd say HVS 4c or maybe 5a --Malcolm O'Beirn
Hardest HVS I've done I'd say. Crap feet and very balancy, snatchy moves. A size 1 rock in the first horizontal break will hold a fall though (I should know) so it's safe enough - Richard.
Legover
Good steep route much closer to VS 4c for the grade for the starting moves and the moves just before you reach the ledge. --Barry Watts
Elvis Who?
A good route, easier if you are short and can squash into small spaces. Good for causing discomfort to your tall climbing friends (who usually have it easier...) --Malcolm O'Beirn
This is fantastic!! - Richard.
Mr President
Where is ths climb ? the wide crack is Elvis Who so where is Mr President ? Is it the the crack ramp that traverse right for 6 metres or so ? --Barry Watts
- I think this was to the right of elvis - its step and body cracky all the way and not very pleasant...dont remember there been a traverse at all that you are talking about. --e
- Climbed this today, I think. No way it’s VS more like S maybe some of it has fallen down? There is a large block about to fall out of the traverse too. A mate said he did a direct finish to this years ago I’ll try and get details. --Liam.
- Looking at it again I don’t know if I climbed it properly. I think it’s the corner crack left of that right slanting crack you mentioned Barry. Maybe it’s supposed to be a direct finish but where is the crack above the overhang? --Liam
